I hate writing reviews, especially negative ones for local businesses. However, I have sat with this for over a week trying to decide if it was worth it and I would not want someone else to go through this. I brought my dog here for a checkup and to receive an allergy shot the vet had previously mentioned to us on our first visit there. The vet said just said okay and gave her the shot. I was given no information about the shot (side effects, possible allergic reactions, etc.) or even a pamphlet to take home, which is standard practice for most vets I have ever been to. An hour after getting home she threw up a very large amount. I immediately called and the receptionist told me that was not a side-effect and that it was probably just nerves. I told her she had never thrown up like this before, so she got the vet (Dr. Pete), who told me the exact same thing. After cleaning up the floor, I went to check on my dog and her face was so swollen she could barely open her eyes. I called the office again and the receptionist rudely said “Oh, if she is having an allergic reaction you need to go to an emergency vet because our doctor left for the day (at 1:00).” She then immediately went to hang up and I had to stop her to ask for a recommendation since we are new in the area. The one she recommended was next to the office, but she failed to mention the whole street (directly in front of their office window) was shut down for a Christmas parade. I got there and had no way to get to the emergency vet. This is not necessarily her fault, but still extremely frustrating, considering I am panicking and thinking my dog was going to die because she gave me no information before hanging up. I had to drive across town, by this point my dog was barely opening her eyes and could not lift her head. The first thing the vet asked when we got inside was if she threw up. I was told this was one of the first signs of anaphylaxis in dogs. After googling the side effects of the shot, vomiting was one of the first to show up. The lack of care, compassion and customer service I received before this was frustrating but to learn that this was common knowledge in the field infuriated me. Either Dr. Pete is simply not good at his job, or he is negligent, but either way, I would never trust this place with my animals again.
